How environmental stressors are impacting your health

Our health is the most valuable gift we have in life.

It plays a huge role in our well-being, yet we live in a world where making healthy lifestyle choices is becoming increasingly difficult.

Even if you do everything right, there are some health threats we can’t avoid– such as environmental toxins.

What are Environmental Toxins?

Environmental toxins are artificial chemicals that get released into the environment.

We’re exposed to them by consuming products containing toxins, such as micro-plastics, cleaning chemicals, and even makeup. They’re also present in our surroundings, especially in urban areas with a lot of pollution.

Environmental toxins can take a considerable toll on your health and wellbeing.

They can weaken the body’s endocrine system, which is why they’re often called endocrine-disrupting chemicals, or EDCs. The endocrine system regulates vital organs such as our thyroid or pituitary gland, where our body produces hormones.

Although these toxins are tiny, the danger comes from how easily they accumulate in your day-to-day.

How do Environmental Toxins affect your health?

Environmental toxins can mess with the body’s hormone production and endocrine system. When our hormones are disregulated, it affects our mood, energy levels, immune system, and so much more.

Research has also linked EDC exposure to cancer, heart problems, fertility issues, and even impaired brain development in unborn children.

Here are a few ways environmental toxins can impact our health:

Weak Immune System

Our immune system is made up of an army of immune cells that help detect potential threats before they can cause us harm. When one detects a threat, such as viruses or toxins, it triggers the body’s immune response to fight them off.

Environmental toxins can weaken your immune system by constantly triggering the body’s immune response. They can also interfere with communication between cells, making it hard for the body to react in time. Exposure to environmental toxins makes it easier for other germs and bacteria to invade, making you more likely to get sick.

It can also increase the risk of your body attacking its own cells, known as an autoimmune response.

hormonal balance

Hormonal Imbalance

Hormones regulate many areas of our lives, from our sleep, stress levels, metabolism, and weight, to our fertility and reproductive cycles.

Environmental toxins can interfere with our endocrine system and inhibit hormones from doing their jobs. This can cause us to fall out of balance and experience problems with these vital functions.

Studies have even found that people living in areas with the highest risk of environmental toxins report the most hormone-related problems, such as struggling to sleep at night, high-stress levels, obesity, and poor mental health.

Premature Aging

Environmental toxins can make you age faster mentally and physically.

By triggering the body’s immune response, they cause oxidative stress and inflammation throughout the body.

During these oxidation processes, reactive molecules known as “free radicals” split off and wreak havoc on our healthy cells. They take electrons from nearby cells, leaving behind a trail of destruction. This is ultimately what causes aging.

Your body can fight this by sending antioxidants to neutralize free radicals and prevent them from causing too much damage.

Usually, the body has enough antioxidants to handle a normal amount of oxidative stress, but when there’s too much stress, your body can’t keep up.

Environmental toxins also disrupt the mitochondria's function in cells. For those needing a quick biology class recap, mitochondria are the “powerhouse of the cell” and create energy to keep us alive and healthy. When the mitochondria can’t function properly, there’s not enough energy supply for all cells to work properly, accelerating the body’s aging process.

You may start to notice age-related symptoms, such as wrinkles or feeling more tired, long before you usually would.

How does the body feel in this state?

Environmental stressors can make your day-to-day feel harder than it needs to be.

You might feel more drained, stressed, and like you can’t keep up with life around you. With your body being in a constant state of fighting off toxins, you definitely won’t be feeling your best.

Physically, you may experience muscle aches and pains, frequent migraines, and circulation issues. Since toxins affect your immune system, they could also cause acne and breakouts in your skin. They also impact your gut health, so if you wake up feeling bloated and experience digestion issues in your regular diet, this could be why.

Toxins can also affect your mental health by interfering with your body’s hormone production. You might experience frequent mood swings, chronic stress, and be more at risk for mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression.

What can you do about environmental toxins?

It’s impossible to avoid environmental toxins altogether.

Even if you lived on a deserted island, you’d be exposed to toxins in the air and water around you. The best way to avoid environmental toxins is by protecting the environment from EDCs in the first place.

Unfortunately, most of this work isn’t in the hands of the individual. Still, more companies are prioritizing products that contain fewer toxins in them.

On an individual level, you can make more conscious choices when consuming products and support your body in protecting itself from toxins.Avoiding plastic packaging, using natural cleaning products in your home, and eating a diet to support your immune system can all help.

These little changes add up and make a big difference.

Our Balance Drops are made with full-spectrum CBD as their active ingredient. Rich in cannabinoids such as CBD, CBC, CBG, and valuable terpenes, all ingredients synergistically work together to enhance each other’s effects.

Studies show that CBD can help the body restore and repair after exposure to toxins and even enhance the function of detoxifying organs. CBD also helps regulate oxidative stress by neutralizing harmful toxins, which are the primary cause of inflammation and aging.

CBD is also incredibly effective at balancing your hormone levels. By interacting with the endocannabinoid system, CBD supports the body in regulating stress, sleep, and serotonin hormones to healthy levels.
